Walking in the Scottish Highlands

Walking in the highlands is indeed a pleasure and pain experience the pain of reaching the top of some of the high peaks but the views from the tops are a real pleasure and will make you forget about those aching feet and blisters at least until you start your descent. Starting at Laggan is the Corrieyairack pass which crosses the Monadhliath Mountains to Fort Augustus The pass is 25 miles long and as been used by travellers for centuries.

Monarch of the Glen

The hit BBC drama Monarch of the Glen with over 85 million viewers worldwidehas filmed in several locations within the village Gergask School, Village Stores and indeed our hotel to name but a few, also just ten minutes drive from the hotel is Ardverikie where the majority of filming takes place. 

 

Wildlife

Red deer are indigenous to the Scottish Highlands. Deer can be seen in huge numbers at certain times of the year. They shed their antlers each year and re-grow new ones, the age of the deer can be told by the size of their antlers

Partridges, Buzzards, Golden Eagles and a host of other birds all have been seen frequently from our sun lounge which looks out over the Glen
